Operations at the Stephens Industries LP Construction & Demolition Landfill and the Processing/ Recycling Facility enhance the quality of life of the community by diverting construction and demolition materials and debris from municipal solid waste landfills, while recycling assorted materials for use in future construction projects.

As the cost of construction materials continues to rise, recycled materials can serve as viable alternatives in some instances. They are becoming more attractive to contractors and developers for use in area construction projects. Processing operations at Stephens Rock and Dirt will ultimately fulfill the three-prong environmental objective to reduce, recycle, and reuse materials that would otherwise be headed for solid waste landfills.

Consulting engineers who helped design and draft the operation plan of the Stephens C&D Landfill have said, "It is the Cadillac of landfills of this kind."  At a construction and demolition landfill, there are no odors such as those often associated with municipal solid waste facilities.

imageThe Facility is ideally located adjacent to Hartsfield- Jackson International Airport and bordered by a rock quarry and two industrial plants that were already operational prior to receiving its Solid Waste Handling Permit.

The facility also provides an economic benefit for local government as well, in the form of reinvestments in solid waste management.  For every ton or volume equivalent of non-recyclable construction and demolition material disposed of in the Stephens C&D Landfill, a cost reimbursement fee is paid to Clayton County. This fee is paid into a local restricted account established by the Clayton County Board of Commissioners to be used for solid waste management purposes only. The Stephens C&D Landfill also helps the County meet the provisions of its mandatory solid waste management plan.  The Stephens Rock and Dirt Processing/Recycling Facility helps the Clayton County Board of Commissioners meet the provisions of its mandatory Solid Waste Management Plan, a major component of the County's long-term master plan for quality growth.
