The Stephens Rock and Dirt, Inc. Processing/Recycling Facility has been established to handle construction and demolition materials, diverting them from community/ municipal solid waste disposal landfills and subsequently conserving permitted landfill airspace in these facilities. In addition, the ancillary benefit of processing construction and demolition materials is to recycle those that can be utilized in future area construction and development projects.

The hazardous materials prohibited in the processing/recycling facility are defined in the rules for Hazardous Waste Management, Chapter 391-3-11, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB’s) as defined in 40 CFR Part 761, and other waste prohibited by the state’s Rules of the Solid Waste Management, Section 391-3-4-04.  Additionally, no liquid asphalt or asbestos shingles will be accepted at the facility

Upon entering the processing/recycling facility, concrete is crushed and reinforced steel is removed, prior to being stored with other materials in separate areas awaiting their sale and reuse. The only potential residue that may result from processing and recycling is a limited amount of wire and/or steel removed from reinforced concrete, which also will be recycled.
